Lab expertise and philosophy

Birkel group members are experts in a large variety of preparation techniques ranging from room-temperature to high-temperature as well as classical to non-conventional methods. This allows them to develop synthesis strategies that can be targeted at a plethora of 3D and 2D inorganic materials.

Furthermore, they use state-of-the-art diffraction and microscopy techniques in order to understand and manipulate the structure and microstructure of the target materials. Their properties are investigated in the context of energy-relevant applications, such as magnets and catalysts.

The group is an inclusive environment of motivated students and more experienced researchers dedicated to see every member thrive and reach their fullest potential.
